Small Industries Development Board (SIDB) is going to establish an institute of wood technology for imparting training to the workers for development and bringing furniture sector at par with the requirements of the modern era. This was stated by Managing Director SIDB, Dr Syed Akhtar Hussein Shah while briefing Secretary Industries, Khalid Pervez regarding the working of SIDB, here on Friday.
The institute will initiate four-year degree programme in collaboration with the Azad Jammu & Kashmir University, Muzzafarabad while different short courses will also be conducted for introducing machinery used in the furniture making. Managing Director, SIDB said that the purpose of the measure is to bring the furniture sector at par with the requirements of the modern era.
He said that the board is making efforts for the establishment of new industrial estates, particularly in Malakand, Hattar (Haripur) and Abbottabad and Carpet Nagar in Peshawar. He said that practical measures for the establishment of the industrial estates have been stated.
On this occasion, Secretary Industries, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Khalid Pervez appreciated the performance of SIDB, lauded the efforts of the management and extended all possible co-operation to it. He said that SIDB is an effective autonomous organisation and no one can ignore its importance. Those present on the occasion included Deputy Managing Directors, Farooq Anwar, Iftikhar Ahmad, Engineer Ahmad Ali, Joint Director Administration, Shehzada Khan and other senior officials of the board.
