Chief Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Pakistan, Syed Munawar Hasan has said that arrival of US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in Pakistan aims to pressurise Pakistan to take concrete action against the Haqqani network in North Waziristan. Addressing a large Friday congregation in Mansoora, he said that the US is forcing Pakistan to commence a military operation in North Waziristan for its vested interests.
Appreciating Pakistani military leadership stance that military operation would be of no use in North Waziristan, he said that it has taken a bold stand for the first time in this regard. Munawar said that in order to hide its defeat in Afghanistan, US is laying stress on Pakistan to operate in North Waziristan. "However, the military leadership has realised the fact that they had made a mistake to shake hands with US on the 'war on terror' which will not be repeated," he added.
He said that US media is propagating against Pakistan while demanding its government to take steps herself against Haqqqani Network in the Pakistani territory if Islamabad refused. The JI chief said that US Senate is emphasising to sanction Pakistan's military and civilian aid, which is tantamount to following the policy of "carrot and stick."
He lauded that the military leadership has categorically said it would make no difference if the US sanctions aid. He reiterated that Pakistan is not dependent on US aid. The nation is ready to pay the price for preserving its independence and sovereignty. He said that JI on many occasions has said that any military operation in North Waziristan would result in a civil war in the country. The operation, whether conducted by Pak army or US forces, would bring serious harms to Pakistan, he added.
