The authorities at the Presidency in Islamabad once again cancelled the groundbreaking ceremony of Thar International Airport at Islamkot near by Thar Coal Project scheduled for October 20th. Reliable sources told Business Recorder on Friday that authorities at the Presidency informed the officials of the Sindh Coal and Energy Department a few days ago that groundbreaking ceremony would be cancelled because of the busiest schedule of President Zardari.
Islamabad's authorities also have not fixed the next date as yet for groundbreaking ceremony, which would be finalised very soon, sources said. According to previous letter issued by President's Secretariat Islamabad, President Zardari had to lay the foundation stone of Thar International Airport at Islamkot on 20th October 2011.
The decision to cancel groundbreaking ceremony has irked the officials of Sindh Coal and Energy Department who were preparing their briefing and presentation. The cost of Thar International Airport at Islamkot would be Rs 976 million. The airport is being constructed to facilitate the visitors of Thar Coal project, sources informed.
It is believed that work on Thar coal project to be accelerated once the airport starts functioning, sources said. The functioning of the airport would give great confidence to the investors as the government of province and Centre have shown their commitment towards Thar coal development as a flagship project, sources concluded.
