Breeding of dengue virus: 34 Katchi Abadis declared as high-risk zones

Capital Development Authority (CDA) has declares 34 Katchi Abadis as high risk zones instrumental in breeding of dengue mosquitoes, major cause of increasing dengue fever. Dr Hassan Urooj, Director Health CDA told Business Recorder Thursday, "The entire city was divided into three zones including high risk, moderate risk and low risk zone.
While giving details of high-risk zones Dr Urooj said that the zones were situated in katchi abadies, Nullahs and other water storage areas of the city. He said that the insecticides have been sprayed several times in Aiwan-e-Saddar, Prime Minister House, hospitals, recreation places, katchi Abadies, slaughterhouses, streets and other areas to minimise the breeding of disease spreading mosquitoes like dengue and malaria.
According to the recent data available with Business Recorder till October 11, insecticides spray was carried out 4504 times whereas fogging was done 6367 times in different localities of the capital. Next year dengue is expected to strike more severely as the vector of dengue virus has been transferred to Pakistan and to forestall this precautionary measures need to be taken on urgent basis. "People should not store water upto 7 days in their houses" Urooj concluded.
