The government did not release any funds during the first quarter of the current fiscal year for power sector projects in Balochistan and southern Punjab under Public Sector Development Program (PSDP).
Funds for five power sector projects in Balochistan were allocated in the PSDP, but these funds were not released against any of the projects during the first quarter, according to status of PSDP released for July-September 2011-12 by the Planning Commission. The government had allocated Rs 150 million for electrification of villages Dera Bugti, Rs 100 million for 132 KV sub-station at deep sea Port Gawadar, Rs 132KV sub-station at Singhar Housing Scheme Gwadar, Rs 100 million 132 KV transmission line Balo Sai Balochistan as well as Rs 100 million for construction of 132 KV grid station at Sui and 132 KV Kashmore but no amount was released for these projects during the first quarter of the current fiscal year. The apparent reason for non-implementation of these projects seems to be deteriorating law and order situation in the province. The government had also allocated Rs 477 million for grid station in southern Punjab in PSDP for 2011-12, but no fund was released for the project during the first quarter of the current fiscal year.
