The most active December copper contract on the Shanghai Futures Exchange closed 2.1 percent higher at 56,010 yuan ($8,776.246) per tonne by the midday close, after falling 0.1 percent in the previous session. Copper is on track for a weekly gain of 1.6 percent on the London Metals Exchange and is up 2.2 percent on the week on the Shanghai Futures Exchange.
