Lack of quorum leads to adjournment of Punjab Assembly session

The lack of quorum in Punjab Assembly led to adjournment of the 31st session of the house by the chair on the very first day. The house, which met here with Speaker Rana Muhammad Iqbal in the chair, passed a resolution unanimously to condole the death of a sitting MPA Chaudhry Mumtaz Ahmed Jajja.
Prayers were also offered for the eternal peace of Shamim Ahmad Khan former Deputy Speaker Punjab Assembly and father of Punjab Minister Nadeem Kamran. Earlier, Opposition Leader Raja Riaz talking to newsmen in the premises of the assembly had announced to hold a walk on the issue of dengue virus from Sharah-e-Quaid-e-Azam (The Mall) to CM House. Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah commenting on the move said there was section 144 imposed and rally on Mall Road would not be allowed.
Punjab Assembly session which commenced in chair of Speaker Rana Muhammad Iqbal two hour late opposition legislator Nargis Faiz criticised the authorities for lack of action for indecency act committed on four-year girl of Rawalpindi. She stressed for action on the incident. After mentioning of lack of quorum by MPA, Ali Asghar Munda, the House was adjourned for 30 minutes and later on as well on lack of quorum, the House was adjourned sine die by the chair.
Agenda of the day which included question period on Auqaf department, including general discussion on dengue virus could not be materialised due to lack of quorum. As the House was called in by the opposition benches to discuss issue of dengue virus, it was primarily their responsibility to run the session, which they failed. Punjab Assembly for which it is mandatory to meet for hundred days in a parliamentary year has so far met for 32 days in the ongoing fourth parliamentary year.
