The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Saturday presented supplementary challan against PML-Q leader Moonis Elahi in National Insurance Corporation Limited scam before District and Sessions Judge Mujahid Mustaqim. The FIA declared Moonis guilty in the challan and added new witnesses including three judicial magistrates and an FIA deputy director.
As proceedings started today, the FIA officials presented the supplementary challan and sought further time. Moonis's counsel Amjad pervaiz opposed the request contending that the prosecution was wasting time of the court. However, the court adjourned the matter till September 26 and directed FIA to submit complete challan and appoint public prosecutor by next hearing.
Earlier, the defence counsel completed arguments on an acquittal application of Moonis Elahi. They pleaded the court to acquit Moonis as all the private witnesses had retracted from their statements. But the FIA sought time to investigate the matter and submit challan in the matter.
Moonis Elahi was accused of receiving Rs 320 million in the NICL scam through bogus accounts. His Manager Abdul Maalick, Rizwan Bhatti and Khalil Ahmad were also indicted in the case. Lahore High Court Chief Justice Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry had transferred the NICL case to the D&SJ, Lahore, after the judge of special court for banking offence, Malik Abdul Rasheed, had refused to proceed with the case.
