The University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, has announced 20 scholarships to study abroad for the varsity's teaching staff in order to enhance capacity building of the teachers that will help provide more quality education to the students. UAF vice-chancellor Professor Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan on Saturday addressed a meeting of all lecturers of UAF at new senate hall, UAF.
The objective of the meeting was to listen and resolve the problems of the young lecturers and to map out a strategy for the uplift of the quality of education at the university. Addressing the audience, he said as many 330 Ph.D. holders are rendering their services to the varsity that's why the university is proving its mettle in the field of education, research and extension and being ranked among top universities of the country.
He said as many as 65 employees of the university are currently studying abroad. Their return will expedite the process of development on the horizon of education and agriculture. The vice-chancellor urged the lecturers to work with more devotion by leaving no stone unturned to produce quality students as the lecturers are the basic unit of the university.
He said three years ago, the university had had only 99 lecturers but now the number has risen to 230 so that 131 new lecturers inducted during the said tenure. Highlighting the issue of gender discrimination, he said the university is taking tangible measures as out of the 131 appointed lecturers, 51 are women. He said to facilitate women the university has set up a Day-Care Centre while a hostel for working women is also being constructed. He also told the audience the Higher Education Commission has directed all the universities to set up office of harassment at their campuses.
