BORDEAUX: In their first match under English coach Rory Teague, Bordeaux dispatched Lyon 19-10 on Saturday in a cagey mid-table match that opened the 15th round of Top 14 games.
Under new management -- Jacques Brunel has left to coach the French national team -- and faced with a largely toothless Lyon team, Bordeaux offered a minimalist brand of rugby with an emphasis on tactical kicking.
Mathieu Jalibert was again perfect with the boot as he kicked 14 points for Bordeaux.
His team, carried by their defence and scrum and despite a misfiring lineout, were rarely threatened but created few dangerous chances of their own until Marco Tauleigne made the breakthrough with their only try after 61 minutes.
Leading 19-3, Bordeaux were a little more adventurous but lacked the quality to add to their lead.
That would have been unfair on Lyon who were far more enterprising in the first half without being able to score -- Michael Harris hit a post with a penalty after four minutes -- but who fell victim to their own indiscipline after the break.
Lyon finally pierced the hermetic home defence in the dying moments with a try by Jean-Marcelin Buttin which saved a little honour.
