Prominent Pakistani cricket umpire Aleem Dar, who is also a panelist on the Emirates Airline Elite Panel of International Cricket Council (ICC) Umpires, was named the "Umpire of the Year" for the third consecutive year in a row. He received the David Shepherd trophy at the ICC awards ceremony in London.
Congratulating Dar on his achievement, Badr Abbas, Vice President Pakistan & Afghanistan said: "Emirates Pakistan is proud of Aleem Dar's achievement as he is not only part of an Emirates sponsored panel but is a Pakistani. Emirates Airline has a close affiliation with cricket and the ICC, and continues to foster the development of sports world-wide."
He beat competition from Steve Davis, Ian Gould and five-time winner Simon Taufel. Aleem officiated in five Tests and 13 ODIs during the voting period - August 11, 2010 to August 3, 2011 - including the World Cup final between India and Sri Lanka. The Emirates Elite Panel of Umpires is a panel of cricket umpires appointed by the ICC to officiate in Test matches and ODIs around the world.
