A division bench of Lahore High Court here Tuesday declared the appointment of Director General National Accountability Bureau, Rana Zahid Mahmood on contractual as invalid. The bench passed these orders following information from the representative of the Federal Government that extension in the contractual service of Rana Zahid has been made after April 21, last.
The petition was filed by Sohail Nisar and Shah Faisal, on which the court had earlier restrained Rana Zahid from functioning on May 26 last. The petitioner had contended that extension in the service period of the respondent DG under the NAB Ordinance could come about only through the Chairman NAB who has not been in the office over the last many months. As such, any extension in the service period of Rana Zahid is against the scheme of the law and the constitution and liable to be struck down.
