Met office issues warning: more heavy rains likely in Sindh

Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Monday indicated chances of more monsoon heavy rains for lower Sindh during next three days. In a warning issued here, Met Office said that heavy spells would cause more flooding in already inundated areas; therefore, all concerned authorities are requested to remain alert for next three days.
Talking to APP, Chief Meteorologist, Ghulam Rasul said that very heavy monsoon rains in Sindh are occurring due to abnormal weather patterns. Generally, widespread monsoon rains occurred in northern parts of the country but this year unexpected weather changes has caused very heavy rains in southern parts and inundated 16 districts of Sindh province. About early forecast of weather changes, Chief Meteorologist said: "We issue seasonal outlook at the start of the season but such abrupt weather events can only be predicted three or four days earlier."
He said that the latest meteorological conditions are indicating that the strong monsoon weather system now lies over south-east Sindh and adjoining areas of Rajasthan (India). Under the influence of this strong weather system, more widespread heavy to very heavy rain and thundershowers accompanied with strong gusty winds are expected in Badin especially 50-60 kms east and north-east of Badin and around Left-Bank Outfall Drain (LBOD), Mirpurkhas, Thar, Umarkot, Thatta, Hyderabad, Nawabshah, Dadu, Larkana districts including Karachi and east Balochistan during next three days.
While scattered moderate to heavy rain and thundershowers are expected elsewhere in Sindh during the period. According to Met Office daily forecast, monsoon currents are still penetrating in eastern and southern parts of the country which may cause scattered rain and thundershower in Punjab and federal capital during next 24 hours.
Scattered rain and thundershower is also expected in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Kashmir and isolated rain in Gilgit-Baltistan during the next 24 hours.Chief amount of rainfall recorded during the last 24 hours was Karachi (Saddar) 38mm, Badin 22mm, Karachi (Faisal) 20mm, Karachi (North) 8mm, Malamjabba and Karachi (Nazimabad) 6mm, Parachinar 5mm.
