The Directorate of Archaeology and Museums, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, in collaboration with Tourism Corporation is going to hold a first-ever four-day International historic coin exhibition from 27th September at Gor Khutree Archaeological complex.
The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Minister for Archaeology and Museums, Tourism and Sport, Syed Aqil Shah said that the basic purpose of organising the four days' coin exhibition is to highlight the rich cultural history of the province. The Secretary Culture, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa in his view about the exhibition said that the step would helpful to develop Gor Khutree Archaeological Complex as hub for local and international tourists.
Nidaullah Seharai, Director Archaeology and Museums, Khyber-Pakhtunkwa, said that the steps are being taken to revive Archaeological tourism in the province. The directorate plans to launch various programmes to highlight the significance of old glory and historic importance of the remains of ancient period.
Explaining the aims and objectives of the four days' Archaelogical tourism promotion activity, the Consultant Directorate of Archaeology and Museums, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Dr Abdul Samad, said that the holding of four days' coin exhibition's basic aim is to celebrate 2,500 years' old history of the Peshawar valley. The Directorate of Archaeology and Museums, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa has devised a comprehensive programme in this regard, said Dr Abdul Samad, Consultant at the Directorate.
He said that in the exhibition the ancient coins of 5th and 6th centuries would be put on display, including Indo-Greek, Scythian, Kushan, Hindo Shahi, and Mughal period. Dr Abdul Samad informed that the foreigners and locals from all over the country visited the exhibition. The exhibition will formally open from 27th September last week of this month, which will be continued for four days at Gor Khutree Archaeological Complex.
He explained that the entry will be free for visitors, including students and families in the exhibition. "We will also offer special package for school students during the four days' exhibition", he added.
