Despite passage of four days of torrential rains in the city the administrations of various towns have failed to drain out the rainwater accumulated on streets in various localities. The main reason behind the situation is small nullahs and sewerage lines, passing through different localities, which were not properly cleaned before monsoon season.
Saddar Town, Landhi Town, Gadap Town, Bin Qasim Town, Defence Clifton area Kemari Town, Jamsahid Town, Orangi Town, Site town are amongst worst areas where rainwater accumulated could not be drained out as yet. This all happened because of bad planning of drainage system. The KESC also failed to ensure safety measures as some people were electrocuted. It also failed to ensure power supply due to which citizens to many areas had sleepless night. Conversely, health experts urged the concerned authorities to focus on swift draining out of accumulated water and ensure supply of clean potable water to the Karachiites.
Moreover, they said that the city and town administrations should also ensure proper disposal of garbage and it is seen that the garbage shifting work is slow during rainy seasons, creating heaps of garbage in the city, especially in thickly populated low-income and slum areas.
