6 September reminds us of those defining moments in our history when Pakistan's survival as a country was threatened by external aggression. At that time entire nation imbued with patriotism and unwavering resolve stood alongside its Armed Forces like a rock and thwarted nefarious designs of enemy.
Today we pay homage of our Shaheeds and Ghazis who remained steadfast against heavy odds and renedered heroic feats of unflinching tenacity, indomitable courage and supreme sacrifices. It is indeed a day of retrospection to focus on our security vulnerabilities, and reinvigorate national unity and resolve to protect our freedom, sovereignty and honour.
While commemorating the epoch making events of 1965, let us stay conscious that today Pakistan once again stands at a critical juncture of history, facing a multitude of complex internal and external challenges which threaten our national cohesion and integrity. Using our own people to destabilise us, the enemies of Pakistan are creating internal fronts wherein the forces of extremism, sectarianism, and sub nationalism are not only thwarting our progress but are also endangering our ideological moorings. By following vision of our forefathers of a tolerant socio-political order and progressive Islamic State, we can conveniently overcome these divisive forces and develop a harmonised social structure.
Despite difficult and multidimensional challenges confronting us today, the proud Pakistani nation, more than once, has displayed its resolve and perseverance to overcome the problems. Let us pledge anew that the national spirit, resolve and solidarity which we discovered in 1965 would be nurtured and strengthened to help to foil the spectrum of brewing threats to our national security. The national will always find its Armed Forces ready to respond to any threat may it be external aggression, internal security or natural calamity.
