Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Punjab protested Tuesday outside the Lahore Press Club against abduction of Shahbaz Taseer, son of slain Governor Punjab Salman Taseer, and demanded his early recovery. President PPP Punjab Imtiaz Safdar Warraich led the protest and it was attended by provincial office bearers as well as senior leadership besides thin presence of party workers.
The PPP Punjab leadership criticised the Punjab government and the Chief Minister Punjab for delay in recovery of Shahbaz Taseer. It may be noted that the PPP Punjab had announced last week province-wide protests, at the district level, against the abduction of Shahbaz Taseer. It was followed by protest in district Sheikhupura a day earlier. However, the independent observers have pointed out thin presence of party workers in the protests. According to them, the party workers are no more interested in party politics and fighting bravely the rising pressure of inflation and unemployment amidst unprecedented power shortage.
However, the party sources are of the view that the PPP Punjab has kept down the level of protest intentionally, likely to be notched up in post-Eid scenario in case the Punjab government fails to recover Shahbaz by then. It is worth noting that the Punjab administration had announced reaching close to the abductors of Shahbaz a day earlier. Record of his cell phone calls was resulted into arrest of a few suspects. However, some of these suspects have also been cleared by the police investigation. Shahbaz Taseer was abducted from the Gulberg area on August 26.
