The Import of tea in the country registered an increase of 17.03 percent during first month of financial year as the country consumed about 9,116 tonnes in the month of July 2011. According to data released by Federal Board of Statistics (FBS), during the month of July, 9,116 tonnes tea costing US $26.494 million as compared to the 7,616 tonnes costing US $22.638 million during month of June 2011.
The tea import was increased by 4.97 percent as compared to the same period of last year as tea import during the month of July 2010 was recorded as 10,415 tonnes costing 25.240 million. Meanwhile, import of Soya Bean Oil was decreased by 75.42 percent as compared to the import of the commodity during same period of last year.
The import of the commodity was 629 tonnes costing US $0.698 million in July 2011 as compared to 2,259 tonnes costing US $2.8 million during the same period of corresponding year. The import of Spices was also reduced by 12.80 percent as compared to the same period of corresponding year.
