Shahbaz Taseer, son of former governor Punjab Salmaan Taseer has been kidnapped from Gulburg area here Friday. No one has yet claimed the responsibility for kidnapping. Two persons riding a motorcycle intercepted Shahbaz Taseer soon after he had left his house and was on his way to his office. The kidnappers took him in their car while his mobile phones and laptop were thrown back in his car by them.
Police collected all the necessary evidence and finger-prints from the car. Police also took two guards in custody for investigation. Guards Liaqat and Fakhar Nazir were on his security. Liaqat, however, told the police that Shahbaz had directed him to stay back at home as he was going to office in a small car. Liaqat had also informed the family members that Shahbaz had gone to his office alone.
After the incident, rangers and police were deployed outside his residence. Meanwhile, the Prime Minister telephoned Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and asked him to ensure immediate recovery of Shahbaz. Shahbaz Sharif also told the Prime Minister that the provincial government would take every possible step for safe recovery of the late Punjab governor's son.
Sheryar Taseer, brother of Shahbaz, said, "Shabhaz was out with a friend when four unidentified people kidnapped him." "Our family has been receiving threats from the Taliban and extremist groups," he said, adding they could be behind the abduction. Shahbaz Taseer's abduction is the second high-profile kidnapping in Lahore this month. Police are still searching for an American aid expert, Warren Weinstein, 70, the country director for J.E. Austin Associates Inc, who was kidnapped about two weeks ago.
