Proposed Seraiki province to be another milestone achievement for PPP: PLF
Peoples Lawyers Forum (PLF) South Punjab Khurshid Ahmed Khan said that the proposed new Seraiki province would be another milestone achievement for the current Pakistan People's Party (PPP) government.
In a statement issued on Sunday, he said, "The demand for a separate Seraiki province had been pending for a long time and finally a positive step has been taken in this regard." He said that the issue was already in the PPP's manifesto of 2008 elections. "The Seraiki region is a stronghold of the party and this decision would strengthen PPP in the area, "he said.
Since the time of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, the region has supported the progressive politics of PPP and it was time to pay them back for their support, he said, adding that the PPP would get on board all political forces in this regard. Hailing the PPP's policy of reconciliation, he said that it was aimed at strengthening the federation and democracy. "PPP believes in the politics of issues and has never issued statements for false political point scoring," he said, adding that the MQM too was soon to join the coalition government, which was a signal of peace and prosperity in Karachi and Hyderabad.
MQM showed a positive response after the recent meeting between president Zardari and governor Ishratul Ibad, he said, adding that significant political developments have given hope that the MQM might join the treasury benches before Eid.
