EDOs directed to ensure SOPs implementation

Punjab government has directed all EDOs (Health) and medical superintendents of government hospitals to ensure that Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) set for handling emergencies are implemented in hospitals while training of paramedics for operating life saving equipment be arranged.
Secretary Health Punjab, Mohammad Jehanzeb Khan, while chairing a review meeting of performance of DHQ, THQ hospitals and health centres of district Bahawlapur here Saturday, directed all EDOs and medical superintendents of government hospitals to implement SOPs. He said that rehearsal session for paramedical staff for providing emergency medical treatment should also be organised.
He stressed upon the officers to improve emergency services of government hospitals. He directed that paramedical staff be trained to operate life saving equipment like defibrillators so that precious lives could be saved. He said that the superintendents are also responsible to provide safe atmosphere to the patients and their attendants. He directed that electric wires, broken switchboards immediately be repaired and manholes be covered to avoid any unpleasant incident.
The secretary health directed all EDOs to submit a certificate to the health department regarding availability of essential drugs in their subordinate hospitals, functioning of medical equipment, emergency arrangements and foolproof public safety in the hospitals every month. Medical superintendents of teaching hospitals would also furnish the same certificate. He directed to improve routine immunisation and service delivery system in the hospitals.
Earlier, EDO Health briefed the participants of the meeting about the performance of the hospitals of district Bahawlapur and pace of work on ongoing development schemes there. Additional Secretary (Tech)m, Mushtaq Ahmed Sulehriya, Additional Secretary (Development), Moazzam Usman, DG Health, Dr Aslam Chaudhry, Deputy Secretary Saleha Saeed, EDO (H) Bahawalpur and other concerned officers attended the meeting.
