US Plains HRW wheat bids steady

Hard red winter wheat basis bids held steady Friday in mostly quiet market as producer selling dried up amid a market slide. Protein premiums for railcar wheat to and through Kansas City climbed 10 cents a bushel for 14 percent protein wheat and jumped 4-7 cents a bushel for 13.00- through 13.60 percent protein wheat supplies.
US wheat prices fell sharply on Thursday as financial markets swooned on economic uncertainty. Kansas City Board of Trade HRW wheat futures ended with the September down 27 cents a bushel at $7.71. New-crop HRW wheat from South Dakota continued to demonstrate quality problems with vomitoxin a concern. Wet weather was eroding test weights in some fields still being harvested. HRW wheat harvest is getting underway in Washington and Oregon with early yield reports good or better than expected in most areas, according to Plains Grains, Inc, a regional US grower group.
