ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court Friday acquitted an innocent man who spent nine years in prison, allegedly involved in blasphemy due to insufficient evidence.
A two-member bench headed by Justice Dost Muhammad Khan and comprising Justice Qazi Faez Esa heard the appeal of the accused citizen of Bhawalnager against life imprisonment awarded him by the high court.
Justice Dost Muhammad Khan remarked that a person who levelled a baseless allegation of blasphemy on others, in fact he himself did the blasphemy and liable to be punished.
After going through the arguments placed by the counsels for litigants the bench observed that the person who spent nine years behind the bars, in fact was an innocent man and subsequently while accepting the appeal passed the acquittal orders of the accused.
