Peace restored to 80 percent of South Waziristan: Major General Rizwan

General Officer Commanding (GOC) South Waziristan, Major General Rizwan Akhtar said on Friday that peace has been established in more than 80 percent areas of the agency including its headquarters.
Briefing the media at Javed Sultan Military Camp here, the senior military officer said that after the restoration of peace the affairs of South Waziristan Agency are carried out by the political administration. He said that some changes had also been made in the methodology of the people to people contact in the area and now beside elders they were also taking common man and youth along in maintenance of law and order in their respective areas.
The change, he said, was proving more successful than the previous approaches. He said that after military operation Pakistan army has now initiated a very ambitious development plan for the area. He said that in this regard a study for identification of the requirements of the people in the South Waziristan had also been launched.
Major General Rizwan Akhtar said that after the conducting of the study, development schemes in the area would be initiated. He said that these measures are aimed the restoration of the confidence of the people.
He said that 99 percent tribesmen of the area want restoration of peace and playing role in this regard. He said that military has never resorted to initiating operation on minor issues and is utilising political administration for overcoming day to day problems in the area. He said that terrorists have been flushed out of the area, saying Ahmadzai Wazir tribe was itself taking action under the clause of the collective responsibility in Frontier Crimes Regulations (FCR).
