The Indian rupee ended weak on Tuesday after falling to its lowest level in more than a week, weighed down by a weakening euro, negative local shares and oil importers' dollar demand. The partially convertible rupee ended at 44.7050/7150 per dollar after touching 44.76, its lowest since June 30, and 0.5 percent weaker than Monday's close of 44.475/485.
The one-month onshore forward premium was at 24.25 points from 25.75 on Monday, while the three-month was at 68.75 points from 70.25 and the one-year was at 230.75 points versus 234.75. One-month offshore non-deliverable forward contracts were quoted at 44.65, weaker than the onshore spot rate.
In the currency futures market, the most traded near-month dollar-rupee contracts on the National Stock Exchange, the MCX-SX and the United Stock Exchange were at 44.8175, 44.8200 and 44.8250, respectively. The total volume was at $12.19 billion.
