Rising demand by importers and consumers pushed prices of rice higher on the wholesale grain market on Monday in process of trading, dealers said. On the rice sector Irri-9 Sindh gained Rs 400 to Rs 5100-5200, Basmati No 386 sharply up by Rs 500 to Rs 6200-6300 as demand increased by the importers and Sela Basmati followed same pattern, picking up Rs 200 for buying and selling at 6000-6200, other types maintained the weekend levels, they said.
On the cereals side wheat old and new both shed Rs 25 to Rs 2650 and 2665, other items maintained Saturday levels in process of trading, they added. On the grams side, Barley Sindh and Mardan were quoted at Rs 2700-2750, Guwar Sindh and Mardan were registered at Rs 5400-5500, guwar Sindh and Punjab were higher by Rs 50 to Rs 5300-5400, other items did not move any side due to balanced demand and supply position, they said.
On the seed sector cottonseed oilcake with bag Sindh low quality did not move any side at Rs 1380 and good type fell by Rs 20 to Rs 1430 and Til low quality retained the weekend level at Rs 3500 and good type shed Rs 50 to Rs 3800 due to fresh supply, they said.
