The Lahore High Court Chief Justice (CJ) Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry here on Friday adjourned till first week of September the hearing of a petition seeking ban on sale of vulgar dance CDs and dramas being aired on Cable TV networks. Earlier, vice-chairman central film censor board Ashraf Gondal appeared before the court and told that it is not the duty of board to monitor or ban sale of vulgar dance CDs and performance of provocative stage dances.
These activities fall under the purview of Motion Picture Ordinance while the board is only responsible to censsor obscene dances from films At this, the CJ remarked that it is a sensitive and serious issue so all sides should provide proper assistance to court.
CJ was hearing a petition filed by a bar member Asif Mehmood Khan against singers Naseebo Lal and Nooran Lal for singing vulgar songs which were spreading obscenity in the society. The petitioner said the PEMRA had not taken any action against the respondents.
He said the shelter given by the government to the singers under the Motion Picture Ordinance 1979 was of illegal and heinous nature against the integrity and sanctity of the society. The petitioner prayed to the court to impose a complete ban on all the audio/video songs of the two singers.
