The annual Computex, the world's second-largest computer show after CeBit in the United States, opened in Taipei on May 31, with local and foreign firms displaying their latest products. President Ma Ying-jeou opened the fair, saying he was happy to see Computex expand with each passing year.
While the fair shows Taiwan's strength in the information and communication technology (ICT) industry, Ma said Taiwanese companies should focus on research, innovation and marketing, rather than being contract manufacturers for large foreign companies.
Some 1,800 local and foreign companies have set up 5,300 booths at the five-day fair, held at the Taipei World Trade Centre and the adjacent Taipei International Conference Centre.
The show features tablet PCs, e-books, Smartphones, 3-D technology and cloud computing.
