The Lahore Bench of the Federal Services Tribunal (FST) has disposed of a record number of 121 pending service cases during the month of May last. Official sources told APP on Sunday that a two-member bench comprising senior member Muazzam Hayat and G M Sikandar took up the backlog of pending cases and disposed a record number of more than 401 cases on day-to-day proceedings during the first quarter of current calendar year.
The services cases related to dismissal from service, termination, reversion, seniority and promotion were pending since 1999. Now all such cases filed up to 2007 have been decided in accordance with law. All fresh cases submitted in Lahore Bench, which are not time barred and fulfil all legal requisite, are also being taken up regularly along with pending backlog.
The bench has advised lawyers to pursue cases regularly instead of seeking unwarranted adjournments to ensure a timely quick dispensation of justice to all aggrieved petitioners strictly within the ambit of law.
FST Member G M Sikandar in order to eradicate menace of corruption and streamline the working, has totally discouraged the tendency of date in office and all petitions which fulfil legal requirements are admitted same day of filling of petition for regular hearing.
It may be mentioned here the FST remain non-functional due to delay in induction of its chairman and members from January 2009 to October 2009 which caused the backlog.
Senior lawyers Mian Jaffer Hussain and Mahmood Ahmad Qazi and other legal practitioners of service matter hailed early disposal of pending cases thus providing solace to the aggrieved civil servants.
