Malik Muhammad Qayyum, former Attorney General on Sunday clarified his position with regard to allegations levelled in a report by Aftab Sultan in the Haris Steel Mill's case. It has been stated in the report that Qayyum and others had a case to answer with regards to allegations raised by the owners of Haris Steel Mill's regarding alleged fees paid in the name of judges.
Malik Qayyum, who is a former President of Supreme Court Bar Association, said in a press statement here that the report was baseless, incorrect and inconsistent.
He said: "This is particularly clear as reported in the media on June 3 last, the alleged accusers, ie, the owners of Haris Steel Mill themselves have immediately come on record and rejected Aftab Sultan's report and an earlier NAB report as completely baseless and have themselves denied allegations of paying any lawyer for bribing judiciary.
"Even otherwise the report itself has held that the persons raising the allegations could not be trusted, yet in Qayyum and others cases the report proceeds to accept the allegations."
