Involve communities, local organisations and local government to: 1. Observe the individual and mangrove community species' ecology of the existing mangrove stands at the site.
2. Pay special consideration to patterns of reproduction, distribution and successful seedling recruitment.3. Understand the effects of hydrology that controls the distribution, recruitments and growth of desired mangrove species.
4. Study the mangrove environment changes, including edaphic factors that occurred and halt natural secondary succession.
5. Appropriate restoration areas are selected through the following: Application of steps 1 to 4, those have positive impact in rehabilitating the eco-system and are cost effective.
Consider the available labour to carry out the projects. Adequate monitoring of the project to achieve quantitative goals established before restoration. Resolve land-ownership and land-use issues necessary for ensuring long-term access to and conservation of the site. Design the restoration program at suitable sites. Observe the natural mangrove recruitment patterns and devise strategy on the observation.
