Sindh police on Saturday constituted an investigation committee over the grenade attack that left 11 persons injured on late Friday night. A team headed by SP Saddar Town would probe the matter. Meanwhile, a FIR 225/11 was registered by Kharadar police against unknown culprits under Sections 324/34 and 3/4 Explosive Act on the complaint of Noor Muhammad, one of the injured in the attack.
DSP Raza Hussain said that at around 1am on Friday night, unidentified riders, who came during power load-shedding, threw grenade at a hotel on Napier Road and escaped under the cover of darkness. He said this incident caused injuries to 11 persons including some MQM activists. He said it is premature to identify the culprits behind the incident. He was of the view that it might have happened due to the installation of barrier as it restricts movement of political activists.
According to the eyewitnesses, the culprits were two to three in number while they managed to flee towards the old city area. Officials of Bomb Disposal Squad claimed that the Russian-made grenade RDG-65, having 65grams of high explosive was hurled in the incident.
They said this grenade could provide fatal injuries to the object in the range of 15 to 20 meters while no casualty was reported as all injured were beyond the said range. Also, Civil Hospital sources informed that three injured among all 11 are under treatment while the rest of them, who received minor wounds, were discharged after normal dressing.
