Federal Minister for Interior, Rehman Malik has directed the Police and Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Administration to take appropriate measures to improve security of the federal capital in general and red zone in particular.
Malik was chairing a meeting to review security measures taken to protect the federal capital, which was attended by Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad and other concerned officials of Interior Ministry and other organisations.
He appreciated the district administration and Islamabad Police for foolproof security arrangements during the budget session in the Parliament and directed the IGP to take further steps to improve the security of Supreme Court Building, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Diplomatic Enclave and Secretariat.
He said honest and efficient station house officers (SHOs) should be posted at police stations and those who are not performing up to the mark should be transferred. Lauding services of 1,000 volunteers, the minister further directed the IGP to increase community policing and to restart new appointment process in the Islamabad police. In this process, he said the volunteers should be given priority. He also directed the IGP to implement the order of Supreme Court regarding the promotion in Islamabad police. Malik announced one month salary for those police staff who performed duty during the budget session on Friday.
