Pakistan Railways has increased price of platform ticket by Rs 5 per ticket (from Rs 5 to Rs 10 per ticket) with effect from Sunday (today). A PR notification said that platform tickets at Karachi Cantt, Hyderabad, Rohri, Multan, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar Cantt and Quetta railway stations would now be sold at Rs 10 per ticket.
It may be added that Pakistan Railways had stopped sale of platform tickets at the Lahore City railway station on the request of Railway Police Inspector General for security reasons. Sources say that due to this decision, Pakistan Railways had been losing millions of rupees annually for the past two and half years. Last year, Railways lost about Rs 7.5 million in platform tickets from the Lahore station. Meanwhile Pakistan Railways has established a "New Multan City" (D Class) railway station between Multan City and Piran Ghaib railway stations, which would be immediately operational.
