Sindh Tourism department has declared Lal Shahbaz Rest House, Noori and Shahjahan Restaurants as financial liabilities and decided to lease out these for three years to private parties through open tender, well placed sources told Business Recorder here on Friday. Lal Shahbaz Motel/Rest House in Sehwan Sharif, Noori Restaurant in Keenjhar and Shahjahan Restaurant in District Thatta would be leased out on three years to the private parties.
The decision was taken due to no income from these official facilities. During a recent meeting, Secretary Tourism Dildar Mangi briefed Sindh Minister for Tourism Ayaz Soomro that the government was earning nothing from Lal Shahbaz Motel/Rest House, Noori Restaurant and Shahjahan Restaurant, rather it was bearing huge financial burden in the heads of salaries of staff and other expenditures, they added.
The meeting decided the restaurants and the rest house would be given on lease for three years to private parties to generate revenue from these official properties. Following the decision, Secretary Tourism had moved a summary to Chief Minister Sindh for permission to lease out the said facilities, the sources added.
Shahjahan Restaurant is located in front of the historical Shahjehan Mosque in Thatta district. It remained abandoned for many years due to non-seriousness of the officials of the department. Lal Shahbaz Motel/Rest House comprising 24 rooms is in dilapidated condition.
When contacted Secretary Tourism Dildar Mangi confirmed the decision, saying he had moved a summary to the Sindh Chief Minister seeking permission to lease out the three facilities. He said that tenders would be issued in this regard very soon, saying that these properties would be leased-out for three years on the basis of Build, Operate and Transfer.
