Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), an ally of the PPP-led government, said the federal budget presented by Minister for Finance Hafeez Sheikh in the National Assembly could not be tagged as pro-people rather it would serve the interests of feudals of the country.
MQM's Deputy Parliamentary leader in the National Assembly, Haider Abbas Rizvi, said that the budget did not meet the expectations of people their demands. He said that the people were facing great trouble due to inflation and unprecedented price hike, saying that the budget could have been made pro-people.
"I think this budget could not be tagged as pro-people as it has been prepared by 'feudals' to serve the interests of the feudals," he said, adding that a budget could not be termed pro-people until it was prepared by public representatives. Rizvi said that the MQM would oppose imposition of reformed general sales tax (RGST) while the party would try its level best to ensure Rs 10,000 as minimum wage. He further said that MQM in its budget proposal had suggested that salaries of the government employees should be raised keeping in view the prevailing inflation in the country.
