Authorities placed veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader in Indian occupied Kashmir Syed Ali Geelani under house arrest on Thursday. Syed Ali Geelani was placed under house arrest to prevent him from carrying forward his awareness campaign regarding the issue of arrested persons, KMS reported. The spokesman of Syed Ali Geelani's forum, Ayaz Akbar told media men that a large contingent of police cordoned off Geelani's Hyderpora residence and informed him that he cannot move out.
Akbar said that the veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader is scheduled to meet New Delhi-based Kashmir Committee headed by noted Indian lawyer and Bharatiya Janata Party member, Ram Jethmalani on Thursday at his residence. Talking to media men, Syed Ali Geelani said that he would continue to stick to his stance to hold talks with non-governmental delegations and not with government-appointed groups.
"We still stand by our point. We will not hold talks with government-appointed delegations. We will engage in talks with any non-governmental delegations who wishes to talk to us," said Geelani. He said that talking to government-appointed groups is useless as they carry forward government agenda. "We had forwarded our four points to the Indian government but were not accepted," he said.
