Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has ordered strict action against Qabza Mafia, extortionists and thugs throughout the province. According to a press release issued by DGPR here on Thursday, he was presiding over a high level meeting to review law and order situation and curbing the crimes in the province.
Chief Secretary, Inspector General Police, Home Secretary, Addl. IG Special Branch & Counter Terrorism Department, Capital City Police Officer and DIG Operation Lahore were present on this occasion. He said that those playing with the lives of innocent citizens deserve no leniency and an strict actions should be taken against such criminals. He said that an effective system should also be evolved for scrutinising private security agencies and only those companies should be allowed to work which fulfil merit and the required terms and conditions and their security guards should also be well-trained and equipped with modern weapons. A procedure should also be adopted for renewal of license of security agencies every year, he added.
He said that Qabza Mafia has become a menace for the society during the last ten years. "We had rooted out the Mafia during my last tenure and now we are fully active for eliminating it again," he added. The campaign launched against Qabza Mafia in Lahore and Faisalabad has yielded positive results, he added.
He directed police to eliminate gangs involved in heinous crimes and take effective steps for curbing incidents of kidnapping for ransom, car-snatching and lifting and street crimes.
Inspector General Police Javed Iqbal briefed about law and order situation and the steps taken against criminals in the province. He disclosed that a successful operation against criminals has been carried out in the areas of Katcha for which assistance of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police was sought. He informed that eleven boats have also been sent to riverine posts in these areas. Capital City Police Officer Ahmad Raza Tahir informed about the steps taken for curbing crimes in the provincial metropolis.
