Hundreds of visa seekers Monday blocked main Sher Shah Suri Road near Peshawar Press Club to protest against Afghan Consulate for allegedly using delaying tactics in issuance of visas to Pakistani nationals. The protesters gathered outside Peshawar Press Club on Monday morning to protest against bigotry attitude of Afghan Consulate in Peshawar. The infuriated protesters had blocked vehicular traffic on main Sher Shah Suri Road, due to which motorists and pedestrians faced enormous hardship.
The protesters were holding placards and banners calling for immediate issuance of their visas. They alleged that the Afghan Consulate had issued visas to those who were allegedly paid huge bribe and demanded for issuance of visas without any discrimination. The Pakistan embassy had issued six months visa to Afghan nationals, whereas Afghan Consulate was using delayed tactics to issue two-month visa to Pakistani, they added. They urged the Afghan government to take notice of the issue. The people from Mardan, Swat, Abbottabad, and rest of the country had visited to Afghan consulate for visa purposes, but they are faced huge difficulties there, the protesters maintained. The demonstrators said the Afghan Consulate had accepted visa form after a lengthy procedure. The police also treated negatively with visa aspirants deputed outside the Afghan Consulate, they complained.
They demanded for devising a solid and concrete strategy for issuance of visa to ease the miseries of the Pakistanis. The Afghan Consulate had banned on issuance of visas from May 2 to 16, 2011, but it has again stopped process for indefinite period.
