In order to ensure provision of quality medicines and elimination of spurious and substandard drugs from the province, refresher courses would be arranged for enhancing the working efficiency of drug inspectors. This was decided at a meeting of Sub-committee of Quality Assurance of Drugs, here on Monday.
The meeting decided that training regarding prosecution will also be imparted to drug inspectors with the co-operation of law department, so that they could prepare solid cases against the elements involved in the illegal business by fulfilling the demands of law.
The meeting also decided to constitute a five-member committee for assessing the performance of drug inspectors. The committee directed the inspectors to visit pharmaceutical firms as per law regularly and ensure quality of medicines there. It also decided that the performance of drug inspectors would be judged keeping in view the number of cases prepared and proved in the courts.
The committee decided that co-operation of all stakeholders would be sought for eliminating the trend of spurious and substandard drugs and representatives of pharmaceutical companies, homeopathic, other drug manufacturing firms, pharmacists and chemist associations would be invited for consultation in this regard in the next meeting.
