Commodities' rates fluctuate moderately in cohesion with price trend on world markets

Modest rise and fall was seen in commodities trade on the wholesale market, close to trend tracked in world markets, during the week ended on May 21, 2011. On the opening day market saw guwar and good quality gur prices surge on grain market where both ways change was seen. On the cereal side guwar Sindh rose by Rs 100 to Rs 4800 and Rs 4900.
Guwar Punjab gained same amount to Rs 4700 and Rs 4800. Gur inferior type was unchanged at Rs 6500 but the other type rose by Rs 500 to Rs 8000. Bajra inferior quality rose by Rs 150 to Rs 2600, while the other type was seen put at Rs 2900. Irri 6 Sindh low type conceded Rs 50 to Rs 3500, the other variety lost Rs 75 to Rs 3525. Exporters are looking for prospective market being hopeful current crop will yield for home and export purposes. On the seed side, cotton cakes with bag in Sindh low type was unchanged, while the better type scaled down by Rs 20 to Rs 1340.
On Tuesday moong Punjab scaled down by Rs 1000 to Rs 8500, gur low type was higher by Rs 500 to Rs 700, while the other quality was put at Rs 8000, khandsari was quoted at Rs 7400. Gram Australia was down by Rs 50 to Rs 4350 and Rs 4550, grams dal Australia low type rose by Rs 200 to Rs 5100, while better one rose by Rs 150 to Rs 5300, rapeseed cake, low type rose by Rs 5 to Rs 875, while other type stayed unaltered at Rs 880, wheat old with bardana was quoted at Rs 2400 and Rs 2410, while wheat new with bardana registered at Rs 2415 and Rs 425.
On Wednesday minor changes were marked on grain market where juwar was quoted at Rs 2400 and Rs 2450. Irri-6 Sindh low type stayed unchanged while better quality was higher by Rs 25 to Rs 3550, cotton cakes with bag in Sindh low type was inert at Rs 1300, while the better one ended higher by Rs 1350.
On Jodia Bazaar chemical items (per kg) caustic soda flakes Saudi closed lower by Rs 20 to Rs 50, sodium sulphate higher by Rs 2 to Rs 17 and N.J. Taiwan rose by Rs 3 to Rs 251.
On Thursday Irri 6 Sindh low type rose by Rs 25 to Rs 3525, while better quality rose by Rs 50 to Rs 3600. On the cereal side wheat old with bardana was quoted higher at Rs 2420 and Rs 2435. On the gram side yellow peas Canada low type lost Rs 25 to Rs 3575 and Rs 3775, yellow peas dal Canada lost same amount to Rs 3925 and Rs 4075, yellow peas Ukraine low quality conceded by Rs 25 to Rs 3875, the better type rose by Rs 25 to Rs 4125 and bajra low type rose by Rs 50 to Rs 2650, while better type rose by Rs 100 to Rs 3000. Cottonseed cakes with bag in Sindh low type scaled down by Rs 30 to Rs 1270, while the better quality shed Rs 20 to Rs 1330.
On Jodia Bazar kirana items (40-kg) black pepper Singapore shed Rs 600 to Rs 20,400, black pepper Brazil ended lower by Rs 500 to Rs 21,500, mace lost Rs 1000 to Rs 98000, small cardamom lost Rs 4000 to Rs 80,000, big cardamom shed Rs 3000 to Rs 81,000, cloves rose by Rs 6000 to Rs 34,000, copra India rose by Rs 150 to Rs 6650, Ajwain lost Rs 600 to Rs 6500, Kalonji lost Rs 1,100 to Rs 8200, dry ginger from China scaled down by Rs 300 to Rs 14,500 and long pepper rose by Rs 1000 to Rs 14000.
On Friday rates on the wholesales grain and seed market were firm, as buyers were busy in preparations for Juma prayers and no transaction transpired.
On Saturday as a whole, general trend in the market was up. Guwar Sindh gained Rs 400 to Rs 5200-5300, guwar Punjab in sympathy, followed same print, rising same amount to Rs 5100-5200, wheat old bardan and new picked up Rs 5 to Rs 2425-2440. Yellow peas Canada low type gained Rs 75 to Rs 3650, the best type, however, shed Rs 25 to Rs 3750, yellow peas dal Canada rose by Rs 125 to Rs 4050 and low type was up by Rs 25 to Rs 3750, yellow peas Ukraine was higher by Rs 50 to Rs 3550-3750, yellow peas dal Ukraine low type rose by Rs 125 to Rs 4000, while the superior quality was unchanged at Rs 4125 and bajra low type picked up Rs 50 to Rs 2700, while the good type was inert at Rs 3000. Irri-6 Sindh low type inched up after gaining Rs 5 to Rs 3530, while the best quality stayed put at the overnight level in process of trading. Cottonseeds oilcake with bag Sindh low type lost Rs 70 to Rs 1200 and best type appreciated by Rs 30 to Rs 1360, til low type gained Rs 100 to Rs 3400 and best type did not show any change at Rs 3700.

PETROLEUM JELLY: PVA Japan ended down by Rs 5 to Rs 240 and Sitara caustic soda flakes moved upward by Rs 13 to Rs 58. RANGOLITE 'C' (Per pound): China ended up by Rs 6 to Rs 89 and Germany was quoted at Rs 91. ACETIC ACID: Taiwan went lower by Rs 2 to Rs 94. HYDROGEN PEROXIDE: Descon 50 percent moved downward by Rs 2 to Rs 64 and Sitara was quoted at Rs 63.
