DI&I reveals: FBR detects companies issuing Rs 15 billion fake invoices
Director Intelligence and Investigation (DI&I), Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Amer Ahmed has said that the department has detected companies, which issued fake invoices wroth Rs 15 billion. Speaking at a meeting of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KCCI) here on Thursday, he said that these companies issued fake invoices worth Rs 15 billion.
FBR has initiated action against the companies on the basis of investigation, solid information and as per law, he added. He revealed that names of very prominent businessmen were among those who used these fake invoices. Amer deplored that business community generally doesn''t provide information related to fake invoices and smuggling.
Referring to smuggling under Afghan Transit Trade (ATT), he said action has been initiated around 600 official of customs and other departments. The director said that raids were conducted on warehouses and smuggled goods were recovered, following which FIRs were registered against the responsible. Smuggled goods are generally sold in markets, he said and asked the businessmen to beware in which markets these goods are available, as these good badly affect their businesses.
Amer Ahmed advised business community to pass on any information regarding this to him so that action could be intimated without disclosing the name of informer. He said FBR had initiated measures to recover the revenue losses suffered as a result of smuggling or fake invoices. The department is directing those involved in fake invoices to pay their due taxes and tax on recovered smuggled goods, he added.
He admitted that he is aware about Yousuf Goth where smuggled goods are dumped, adding the department has only 140 employees and action can not be initiated without assistance of other law enforcing agencies. President KCCI, Mohammad Saeed Shafiq said that smuggling under ATT was a big problem having adverse impact on economy and industries.
