Raw sugar futures and cocoa futures ended mixed on Monday, while arabica coffee was hit by fund liquidation, but dealings across the softs complex were lacklustre, traders said. Volumes in sugar was 15 percent below the 30-day norm, arabica coffee a quarter below the 30-day average and cocoa was over 50 percent below the 30-day average, Thomson Reuters preliminary data showed.
New York's July raw sugar contract gained 0.32 cent to settle at 21.77 cents per lb. Cocoa futures were steadier. The market seemed to consolidate after prices fell nearly 20 percent since peaking at a 32-year high of $3,775 a tonne on March 4. New York's July cocoa contract rose $4 to close at $3,006 per tonne. ICE Futures US July arabica coffee contract fell 5.30 cents to finish at a 6-week low at $2.641 per lb.
