No Pak-US 'secret deal' will be accepted: Chaudhry Nisar

Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Tuesday declared that no Pak-US 'secret deal' will be accepted, which he said was struck bypassing the recent unanimous resolution of the parliament. Speaking at a news conference, Chaudhry Nisar, who is also central leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), alleged the government for secretly striking deal during Senator John Kerry chairman US Senate Foreign Affairs Committee visit to Pakistan.
He demanded explanation from civil and defence authorities for their newly agreed 'code of conduct' with the US without taking the parliament into confidence. He stated these while referring to the joint statement issued by the government on Monday about Senator Kerry's meeting with country's civilian and military leadership, agreeing to work together in any future actions against "high value targets" in Pakistan, adding it was contrary to the unanimous resolution that had asked the government to revisit its ties with the US.
"All such terms of engagements with US are not acceptable, they should be revealed before the Parliament", he said, terming the new code of conduct as have been struck bypassing the Parliament. He said that if the government had to strike a deal and agree on new engagements then there was no need of convening the in-camera session of the Parliament. He further said that opposition was not taken on board on the recent agreement with the US. "We want to make it clear that no 'secret deal' will be accepted now and the process of 'hide and seek' game must come to an end", he said, adding that the independent commission as agreed in the joint resolution to probe into US raid in Abbottabad should immediately be formed.
The PML-N leader strongly condemned the non-stop US drone attacks and airspace violation of Nato helicopters injuring two security forces' personnel, urging the government to halt Nato supply line in protest against violation of the country's airspace and its sovereignty.
He said it was condemnable that US drone carried out attack in North Waziristan at the time when Senator Kerry was present in Pakistan. "Even ink of the joint resolution was not dried up, the US conducted drone attacks inside our territory," he said, adding the strikes ridiculed the sanctity and value of the unanimous resolution of the parliament.
He also called upon the army to demonstrate its response on the recent Pak-US deals, saying that after the passage of unanimous resolution army had been entitled to safeguard the nation.
Chaudhry Nisar also demanded that the 'secret deals' signed with the US in Musharraf regime should also be made public. He also came harsh on the government saying that three days after passage of the resolution, the government has started showing its true colours that is resorting to 'hypocrisy'.
About the formation of independent commission, he said PML-N will forward some names to the government comprising representatives to hold probe into May 02 US raid in Abbottabad. Those proposed by PML-N for commission include Justice (Retd) Shafiur Rehman, Justice (Retd) Nsair Aslam Zahid, former Justice Fakharud Din G. Ibarhim, Majeed Nizami, Asma Jahagnir and Mehmood Khan Achakzai. He, however, made it clear that it was mere a suggestion and he was not aware whether or not these people would agree to perform the role since he had not contacted them.
He lamented that the Prime Minister should have taken the initiative, but he had gone for foreign visit instead, adding that he would dispatch a letter bearing some names for inclusion in the commission by tomorrow. The commission should complete its work within 30 days, he added.
Referring to the in-camera briefing by military leadership to the parliament, Chaudhry Nisar said it was a 'so-called' in-camera session that is why PML-N had demanded government it should be opened for the media, adding that the government actually wanted to hide the facts behind its failure.
He said that the briefing lasted for about two hours while it took nine hours to reach consensus on the joint resolution of parliament. He also warned that he would bring the 'facts' before the nation if the government did not put its house in order, however, added he would not make any sensitive matter public.
