Workers at Fedex Corp's European gateway in Paris took strike action into a fourth day on Saturday over a pay row that has disrupted flights and the delivery of thousands of packages, a company spokesman said. Memphis-based FedEx, the world's largest cargo airline, employs about 2,200 people at Charles de Gaulle (CDG) airport, which serves Europe and the Middle East.
"We've had a fluctuating number of our hub employees staging work disruptions at CDG in Paris," Fedex Communications Director Mauray Lane said by telephone from the United States, adding that the walkouts were continuing on Saturday. Five flights had been cancelled since the start of the labour action on Wednesday, he said. "The company has contingency plans to work around this issue and is committed to providing service as best as we can, however some customers may be experiencing delays," Lane said. Citing a union official, French daily Les Echos reported late on Friday the unions were attempting to negotiate a 5 percent increase for workers in the compulsory annual review and that 700 strikers had voted to continue the action.
