Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has constituted a total of three benches of the Supreme Court for next week commencing from May 16 (Monday) for hearing hundreds of cases here. According to the cause list issued by the fixture department of the Supreme Court, the benches comprise Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Muhammad Sair Ali, Justice Ghulam Rabbani (Bench-I).
Other benches consist of Justice Javed Iqbal, Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali (Bench-II), Justice Mian Shahkarullah Jan and Justice Tariq Parvez (Bench-III). On the directives of the Chief Justice, the fixture department has mentioned on the top of the cause list that "no application for adjournment through fax will be placed before the court". If the counsel is unable to appear for any reason, Advocate-on-Record (AOR) will be required to argue the case. No adjournment on any ground will be granted.
Major cases which are scheduled for next week include: procurement loss of billions of rupees of exchequer caused by National Insurance Company Limited, suo moto action regarding corruption in Pakistan Steel Mill by ex-chairman, petitions about humiliation of eunuchs, petition on illegal appointment and massive corruption in EoBI, petition relating to privatisation of Habib Bank Limited and missing persons case. Besides the benches will hear cases relating to tax, service, bail and revenue and other.
