US Ambassador meets Nawaz

Published Updated

The US Ambassador to Pakistan, Cameron Munter, accompanied by US officials called on PML-N Leader Nawaz Sharif at his Raiwind residence on Saturday and discussed the situation arising out of the US operation in Abbottabad. During the meeting which lasted for about two hours, various matters pertaining to Pak-US relations and unanimous resolution adopted by the Parliament came under discussion, sources said.
The US ambassador was accompanied by US Consul General Carmella Conroy and other officials while the PML-N Quaid was assisted by Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Opposition leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and Khawaja Mohammad Asif. During the meeting, Nawaz made it clear to Cameron Munter that Pakistan had suffered a lot in war against terror but despite this Pakistan was being blamed. He also told the US envoy that Pakistan could not maintain unilateral relations.
The sources claimed that the US Ambassador returned disappointed as he failed to convince the PML-N Quaid against the increasing US unilateralism. Nawaz told reporters after the meeting that he made it clear to the US Ambassador that if Pakistan's sovereignty and taken of care by the US, respect would be given on reciprocal basis. The PML-N leader said that Pakistan's concerns were conveyed to the US diplomat and he was informed that our sovereignty had been violated that was not acceptable. He said in 9/11 there were only 3,000 causalities while Pakistan had lost 35,000 innocent people (officials and civilians), its economy suffered huge losses while there was surge in poverty. But, we are being blamed, he said.
