With the drop in mercury in Punjab power shortfall has reduced to 1988MW. Rains and thunderstorms have eased electricity demand. According to Pepco, power generation through hydel, thermal, IPPs and RPPs during last 24 hours stood at 5002MW, 1349MW, 7269MW and 167MW. Improvement in hydel power generation has reduced loadshedding duration in the country.
But still remote areas in cities and rural areas are facing unscheduled loadshedding. Power breakdown for long hours has made the peoples life miserable. In addition, the ongoing electricity and gas load shedding in the industrial sector is adding fuel to the fire, as closing down of many industrial units is rendering labour force jobless with each passing day.
