Punjab University book fair attracts students, scholars

Punjab University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mujahid Kamran, renowned journalists and columnist including Hassan Nisar, Sohail Warraich, former Provincial Minister Muhammad Ashraf Sohna, MPA Rana Iqbal, renowned poet Wasi Shah, bureaucrats, faculty member and a large number of students from various schools, religious, political, social and every segment of life visited the book fair on second day being organised by PU administration, faculty and students and purchased books of their interest.
While Pakistan People's Party Secretary General Jahangir Badar will visit the book fair on Saturday at 11am and a delegation of education reporters will visit at 12noon. According to the spokesperson of the university people were showing great interest in the book fair and around 15,000 books were sold on the first day. The students showed their keen interest in the books on the topics related to co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.
Renowned columnist Hassan Nisar said the book fair was very important to promote study culture in the society. He said the period of book fair of three-days must be expanded. Sohail Warraich said the holding of book fair was very good tradition. He highlighted the importance of books and said US Presidents Bill Clinton's policy against Bosnian and George Bush's policy about 9/11 against Muslims were due to book reading.
He asked the youth to read books on every subject and said he was very much hoped of the younger generation. Wassi Shah said he had deep relations with literature and it was a poet's duty to appreciate an activity being organised for the promotion of knowledge. He paid glowing tributes to the varsity administration for organising book fair to promote book-reading culture. He also appreciated to announce a day only for families. Today (Saturday) is the last day of the book, which is only for families.
While Punjab University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mujahid Kamran hosted a dinner in honour of an 11-member delegation of Bangladesh's leading media organisation at the Executive Club, here at New Campus. Vice-Chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran briefed the delegation about the academic, research, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities being carried on the varsity. The delegation members thanked the varsity administration and especially VC Dr Mujahid Kamran for the hospitality they were provided at the campus.
