A total amount of Rs 1481 billion is required in future to complete 236 projects budgeted in PSDP 2010-11 out of 540 projects. Minister for Finance, Revenue and Planning and Development Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh said that total 540 projects costing Rs 2516 billion from January 1, 2009 to April 8, 2011 have been approved by the Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC) and Central Development Working Party (CDWP).
In written replies to the question in the National Assembly, he said that 236 projects costing Rs 1689.0 billion out of 540 projects approved during the said period are part of current PSDP (2010-11). An amount of Rs 208.0 billion stands utilised against these projects so far.
The Minister said that the overall objective of implementation of projects is to bring socio-economic development of people of Pakistan by undertaking potential projects in various sectors of the economy like energy, water resources, road, railways, ports, physical planning & housing, education, health, governance, skills development etc.
In another reply, the Minister said that as many as six Projects worth US $2757.400 million have been launched with technical & financial support of China. Another five projects worth US $409.292 million are under process for implementation, he said.
He said that a total amount of US $837.547 million has been disbursed on six projects up till February 2011. Similarly, Finance Minister said that an amount of Rs 21.82 billion was allocated for 294 projects of education sector under PSDP 2010-11. Out of this, Rs 15.87 billion stands released to the sponsoring Ministries/Divisions up to April 26, 2011, he said.
"Out of 294 projects, 24 projects costing Rs 43 billion were launched as new projects during fiscal year 2010-11. An allocation of Rs 3.0 billion was earmarked in PSDP 2010-11. An amount of Rs 13.7 billion has been utilised by the project authorities up to March 2011 against total allocation of Rs 18.92 billion," he said.
